Home Start is a national charity with schemes all over the United Kingdom, every scheme is individual and offers different services. Each scheme must manage and fund itself, however we adhere to Home Start UK policies and procedures and ensure that we provide excellent communication between services and pride ourselves on the reputation we have built in the area. 



Home Start Morecambe & Lancaster was set up in 1999, we have had various sites over the town but are now settled on Morecambe Street. We generally at any one time support around 60 families. We work in Morecambe, Lancaster and Carnforth and the areas in between, however we are hoping in the future if we can acquire the correct funding to branch out into the rural areas that surround us.



At the moment there are four members of staff, Joanne, Michelle, Alan and Sally who work really hard to promote, fund and run the scheme. We have at the moment around 50 volunteers who are volunteering in one capacity or another and are very proud of every one of them. We work very closely with statutory bodies in the area and also the local Children's Center's who we have a brilliant relationship with and where the majority of our referrals come from.



Families can self refer or be referred by an agency, doctor, health visitor. Any service in a professional capacity can refer and we do our best to ensure the family is contacted straight away with a visit booked within ten days. All information we receive is strictly confidential and everyone who we work with and train is CRB checked.

Our volunteers have parental experience and undergo a thorough Course of Preparation, we then match them with a family who we strongly believe will be suited and receive the best possible support. Our volunteers can support a family to do anything they feel they need support with, we are not a babysitting service or a cleaning agency we support parents and their children to do things for themselves.

We can support any family as long as they have at least one child under the age of 5 and want our support, any referrer must have discussed this with the family first and signed our referral form.
